Youth Leadership Conference Hosted by Lake to Lake Women

Region VII chapters, Lake to Lake Women, assisted by Yates County Women recently hosted a Youth Leadership Conference with a Reality Store® component.  On March 5th, 15 girls from several area schools came together in Waterloo for a day of learning and camaraderie.

New Family-Leave Policy for NYS

We should be proud to live in a state where our elected officials fight for the rights of working people, such as earning a living wage, and having paid family leave. Because women make up a majority of those earning minimum wage, and are often the care takers of children and other family members, this new budget will benefit the women of this state!

Capital Region Women's Network Presents Reality Store Program

Capital Region Women’s Network (CRWN) partnered with Girls Inc. to offer the Reality Store program on September 29, 2015 at the Girls Inc. Schenectady location, with 14 youth participating. Girls Inc. runs a vibrant after school program for Schenectady area youth that draws from Schenectady and the surrounding communities. 

NYS Women- Staten Island to present Women of Distinction Awards to Margaret Barry and Geraldine Walters Smith

The Staten Island chapter of New York State Women will honor their longest standing members Margaret Barry and Geraldine Walters Smith with their Lifetime Distinction Award. Margaret served the organization for 53years; Geraldine for 52 years.

Seven outstanding women will join Ms. Barry and Ms. Walters-Smith at the ceremony and luncheon on Saturday, April 2, 2016, noon, LiGreci’s Staaten, 697 Forest Avenue, and Staten Island.

Women make up a majority of those earning the minimum wage, which has not kept pace with the rate of inflation over the last 50 years. Many of the modern, industrial nations of the world, our allies, have much higher minimum wages, without the disastrous consequences predicted by those who oppose raising the minimum wage. In fact, each of those states that have raised their minimum wages have experienced job growth much higher than that in every single state that did not raise the minimum wage. This is because raising the minimum wage pumps millions into local economies, providing a massive stimulus effect.
