Grade LeGendre EndowmentThe Fellowship provides awards to women who are candidates for master and doctoral degrees at colleges and universities throughout New York State in a wide range of disciplines. An annual competition is held and administered by a Grace LeGendre Endowment Fund, Inc. committee.

Fellowships are awarded annually for graduate study to qualified women. The number and amount of the fellowships vary from year to year. Please review the qualifications listed and apply only if you meet these requirements.

As Winter Board is fast approaching, March 2-4, 2012, the Nominating Committee is seeking qualified candidates to run for New York State Office. All offices are currently up for election ~ ~ ~ Candidate packets may be obtained through the New York State Women, Inc. website, by contacting Linda Provo,Chair or any member of the Nominating Committee. DEADLINE - March 9th for all applications.

The Youth Leadership Reality Workshop presents a real life simulation in which the participants select a career and make lifestyle choices. The participants then receive one month’s salary (after taxes) and must pay for their lifestyle choices at 18 booths, run by members of New York State Women, Inc. For example, depending on the size of their family, they select a housing option, to rent or own, number of bedrooms and either a base, moderate or luxury model.

The Career Recognition Program seeks to recognize the achievements of women re-entering the workforce or women who have experienced an exceptional occurrence in their position. Through competition, this program will sharpen interviewing and public speaking skills.The Career Recognition Program recognizes the achievements of women who are new to the workforce as a result of a career change; who have earned an exceptional achievement/advancement in a position; or who have returned to the workforce after an absence of at least three years.

At the last statewide meeting, this past fall, the Board directed the Strategic Planning Committee to work on developing a six (6) region proposal for discussion and action at its next meeting, which will be March 3rd, 2012. Since then, quite a bit of conversation has taken place at chapter and district meetings. The Strategic Planning Committee’s 6 Region Plan is not based on membership numbers, but is based on county boundaries.

 

As we continue to move forward in our journey we are launching a new web site. The new web site will help us communicate with our members and the community much better. We are also incorporating online payments for meetings and soon to be membership payments.

New York State Women, Inc. welcomed its board of directors and members to the annual fall board and member meeting, in scenic Lake Placid, during the weekend of September 23-25. It was productive, successful and enjoyable – a great package. Much was accomplished as several committees presented proposals for changes that would challenge our organization’s structural history.

New York State Women Inc. is taking a stand against the Dr. Pepper/Snapple Group Inc.'s marketing of a new 10 calorie diet drink designed to appeal only to men.  The company, which is headquartered here in New York State, airs a commercial that explicitly states “Dr. Pepper Ten, it’s Not for Women”, which began airing in October.

September 23-25th 2011 saw NYS Women Inc. members from all over New York State gather in Lake Placid, NY for the Fall Board meeting and a Special Member Meeting at the High Peaks Resort. Members of the host District XI, Carrie Locatelli, Bev Sprague and Linda Provo welcomed attendees while Mother Nature participated with an offering of glorious fall foliage.

The Women's Day at the Fair event was held on August 31, 2011 and it was sold out!  Of the total attendees, 20 NYS Women, Inc. members participated.
