Veteran’s & Community Housing Coalition Presentation

Veteran’s & Community Housing Coalition Presentation

Author: Communications Committee/Tuesday, October 26, 2021/Categories: General

The pandemic halted fundraising by the Veteran’s & Community Housing Coalition in the Capitol region to create a women and children only shelter for female veterans. Michelle Viola-Straight made a presentation at the Fall Board meeting (Sat. Oct. 16th via zoom) to update us on the “Foreverly House”.

Foreverly House is a home to be developed for homeless veteran moms and their children. The Foreverly House Project will help Veteran Moms and their children while they make the transition from military to civilian life. There currently is not a single facility to house a Veteran Mom and her children together while she receives the services she has earned and deserves. These moms are often separated from their children, or simply given a housing voucher and sent off to fend for themselves without the support they need if suffering from an addiction, recovering from PTSD, or in many cases, been victims of sexual trauma.

The Veterans & Community Housing Coalition provides housing and support services to all homeless Military Veterans and their families and to provide housing opportunity to low income families. The words homeless and Veteran should never be used in the same sentence, which is why we make it our mission to do everything we can to serve the ones who served us!
