Gifts $2000 to Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art

The Staten Island chapter of New York State Women presented a $2000 gift to a local museum founded by a woman with a vision.

“The Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art provides programs that bring awareness of the Tibetan culture to Staten Islanders and those who visit from around the world,” said Meg Ventrudo, director. “This museum was the vision of a woman who built it with her own funds. We are pleased to be caretakers of her dream.”

The museum opened in 1947. Jacques died in 1948, four months after the Museum opened in 1947. In the mid-1970 a conservator and curator came on board with the help of state funding. Today the museum continues to be managed by women.

Since 2004 Meg Ventrudo, director and Sarah Johnson, curator have been in charge of the museum collections, building renovation, proper storage and conservation of the collections and

The museum boasts a comprehensive Eastern culture library and offers a diverse menu of programs.
