Katherine T. King -1962 State BPW President Passes

Author: Communications Committee/Saturday, January 5, 2013/Categories: General

Katherine T. King our 1962 State BPW President died Christmas Eve in Florida.  She was a young widow and a member of Delhi when she was Dean of Women there.  She transferred to Rochester to their BPW Club and became Chairman of the Business Education Dept. at East Ridge High in Town of Irondequoit.  She met Beverly Hopkins from Utica BPW at a convention and they decided to have a house in West  Webster where Bev could set up her Childrens Photography business.  The two of them missed their BPW affiliations and decided to form a club in Webster.  We chartered in 1963 and a new and exciting life began for all.

At National Katherine was elected Treasurer in 1964.  When she could not have the time away from her career for National office the following year, she was asked to be Treasurer of International and was ableto be away for their fewer meetings. That took her around the globe and we in Webster had the benefit of meeting several members from other countries who came to visit.  What great experiences we had.  When Katherine retired she joined a Florida BPW in Venice.  Then after Beverly died, Katherine moved to an Independent Living Facility closer to Florida relatives near Winter Haven.
