Kamie Fields from the Chadwick Bay Chapter was awarded the 2016 Grace LeGendre Endowment Fund Fellowship. The Fellowships was awarded at the 2016 Grace LeGendre Endowment Fund World of Possibility Luncheon on Saturday, May 7th, 2016, at the Hampton Inn, Albany, New York. Each Fellowship is in the amount of two thousand dollars ($2000).
Kamie is completing her Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Medaille College in Buffalo, NY. Her first career was a Veterinary Technician in an animal hospital - a role she embraced for over twenty years.
Later she decided to make a career change and the decision to go back to school at mid-life was a challenging one. Inspired by a quote from John Dewey, "education is not preparation for life, education is life itself," she jumped into the world of academia with both feet and eyes wide open. She obtained a Bachelor's degree from SUNY Empire in December 2013 and is on track to graduate in May 2016.
Upon graduation, her intention is to work in her community. Eventually, she plans to grow a a private counseling practice where she can use her education and life experiences to help others create meaning, joy and hope in their lives.
