Athena Military Women’s Initiative Update

Athena Military Women’s Initiative Update

Author: Communications Committee/Thursday, February 27, 2020/Categories: General

As promised last month there will be a needs drive to help military women at the Spring Board meeting, March 21st in New Hartford, NY.   Attendees are invited to bring feminine hygiene products to the meeting.    The donations will be donated to Guardian House in Ballston Spa, NY.   Guardian House is the ONLY female veteran’s home in NYS, and just one of 7 in the nation.   Chapters can participate by accepting donations in March and sending them along with Region directors to the meeting.  Contact the Chair, Sue Mager if you’d like to arrange for someone to bring your Chapter donation/s to the Spring Board meeting

President Robin has requested the committee present a workshop at the Spring Board meeting.  We are thrilled to have a representative of the capitol region’s Veterans & Community Housing Coalition.  The Director of Community Relations, Michelle Viola-Straight, join us to accept our donations and tell us about Guardian House.

The workshop will present ideas on how Chapter’s we can help meet female veteran’s needs.  Michelle will present information on a grass roots project in the capital region that will house not only female veterans, but will be exclusively for homeless female veterans with children.

They wore the boots for us!  This workshop will be an opportunity to learn about homeless female vets and live up to our legacy of women helping women.    See you March 21st!
