Our March Board Meeting, March 2-4, 2012, at the Radisson Hotel, Corning, NY, was ably hosted by District VII, is presented more opportunities for members to express their ideas and opinions and vote on changes to our bylaws and structure. We successfully welcomed at least 16 young women to our Youth Leadership Program, a program designed to provide high school students with knowledge and experiences that will expose them to opportunities and challenges that they may face in their future. As promised, this meeting featured workshops on life planning for women of all ages; Public Relations and their successful upgrades to our presentation via our website and their plans to enhance communication to our members and potential members; and security on social media sites.

The Strategic Planning Committee conducted another productive workshop to move us further along into the next phase of proposed changes to our organization’s structure and policies. The Bylaws Committee presented additional proposed changes and has been diligently working on an updated version of our bylaws. The Public Policy Committee presented select pending legislative bills for our review and will follow up with letters of support from NYSWI. Our Manual of Instructions Committee presented additional revisions to our policies and procedures. The Legislation and Advocacy Committee prepared a presentation on their work to date. Other members of our Board of Directors and Committees took to the podium to update us on our status. Members in attendance also heard speakers on the legislative process in Albany and on topics of Domestic Violence and Women in the Military. Entertainment at our Saturday cocktail hour featured a military women’s song and dance troupe. Thanks again to District VII for a job well done!!!

Please pay special attention to results of the vote on the Strategic Planning Committee proposal pertaining to changing our governance structure from eleven (11) Districts to eight (8) Regions, effective July 1, 2013. Details about the governing structure and policies & procedures are yet to be discussed and determined. Bylaws have been revised to reflect these changes.
