Description of Presentation I'll be talking about two upcoming training events and DRC services: (1) CASA training: for people interested in becoming CASA Volunteers. CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates and once trained, these volunteers are assigned to children who are in foster care due to abuse or neglect. Their role is to be the voice of the child in Court and to monitor and track the child's progress. The training is free; applicants are required to complete an interview and screening process. (2) Basic Mediation training January 27 - 31, 2020: for community-minded individuals who have a few hours a month to give back to their community. Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) process to the traditional court process. It is voluntary, confidential and involves a neutral third party, a mediator, who helps the disputants settle their issues by talking things through. (3) DRC services: the Dispute Resolution Center (DRC) is a nonprofit center and part of the statewide ADR network of community DRCs that provide free or low cost mediation services to all New Yorkers. Our center also provides education and training. Classes include parent education and anger management. Training includes those mentioned above as well as conflict skills training for businesses and agencies; peer mediation training in schools; communication and de-escalation training. There is a great need for volunteers at this time and through my presentation, I'm hoping that members of your organization can help spread the word or consider volunteering.
Additional Information there is no fee for the presentation DRC is a nonprofit agency and welcomes donations in any amount at drcservices.org
