Carol Golyski, a member of Grand Island Professional Women’s Chapter, New York State Women, has been selected the winner of the 10th Annual Womens Exemplary Leadership Award, which was presented Wednesday evening (June 22) at a dinner in Elldins, River Oaks, Grand Island. AccuTheranostics, Buffalo cancer lab, presents the award each year.

Dr. Sherry Bradford, of Grand Island, is president and chief financial officer of AccuTheranostics. She presents the Award each year at the June meeting of the Grand Island Professional Women. Dr. Bradford started the Award because of “the unique challenges I faced in opening and running the cancer lab.

According to Dr. Bradford, the Award is an opportunity to recognize a woman for what she has accomplished, and it honors a woman who actively supports and inspires others to reach their full potential.

Mrs. Golyski earned her BS in Medical Technology from Rosary Hill College (now Daemen), where she was inducted into Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society. While working full time, she began graduate studies in Health Science Education at the University at Buffalo. After completing her masters degree, she taught at Erie and Niagara community colleges, as well as Daemen College.

Then, Mrs. Golyski joined the Department of Biotechnical and Clinical Laboratory Sciences at the State University of New York at Buffalo. In addition to teaching courses in the Medical Technology Program, she served as the Clinical Education Coordinator and Medical Technology Program Director. As part of this program, Mrs. Golyski received the Outstanding Teacher Award in 2005, 2008, 2012 and 2015.

Mrs. Golyski decided to pursue a health science career following orthopedic surgery as a teenager. “I liked science and medical technology seemed like a natural fit,” she added. “I would tell students today that in this field there is a nationwide shortage, so employment opportunities are plentiful.”

Carol Golyski continues to be active nationally and locally in professional organizations and her community.

She is active on the national and local level of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Sciences; she is president-elect of the New York State Society for Clinical Laboratory Sciences; she is Co-President of the AAUW Buffalo Branch; and was secretary of the Grand Island Professional Women’s Chapter, New York State Women, Inc.
Mrs. Golyski enjoys golf and is a member of the Grand Island Women’s Golf League. In the winter, she likes cross country skiing.
