August's Message from the President

Author: Communications Committee/Wednesday, August 8, 2012/Categories: General

It's hard to believe Labor Day is just around the corner. I hope everyone has enjoyed the gifts of summer and are eager to begin their chapter and regional activities renewed and refreshed. The Executive Committee has been very busy since June. The Leadership Directory is 99% complete and was posted to the website in record time. The membership database hs been updated with dues renewal notices going out with complete dues information. Second Vice President Colleen Ostiguy is working up a member benefits package and that is just a smidgen of what your organizational leaders have been doing this summer.

The October 2012 NYSW, Inc. Board of Directors and Members Meeting have been finalized. Registration forms are on our website. I would like to personally invite every member to join us in Niagara Falls for the weekend of October 12-14, 2012. The Conference and Event Center of Niagara Falls is a fabulous venue. All of the programs and training are intended to give value to your NYSW, Inc. membership. Sunday's workshops have been designed, not only to train and motivate future leaders of the organization, but to help you get the most out of your membership.

Thanks to the CDO (Career Development Opportunities, Inc. - a 501(c) 3 corporation), its leaders and members, there will be a "Train the Trainer" program on Saturday and Sunday. Every member registered will leave with Reality Store training and materials to take back to your community. Chapters and regions will have the tools and training necessary to present Youth Leadership programs all across New York State. That is my challenge to the chapters and regions for this year.

The most important reason why you as a member of NYSW, Inc. should attend is your participation in the governance of the organization. Your vote counts. Amendments to our bylaws which affect the governance of regions, strategic planning recommendations, possible state budget adjustments and other important items require member input and vote. Why a Special Member Meeting in October? NYSW, Inc. is evolving rapidly and certain operational policies and processes need to be addressed in a timely manner. In order for us to be a successful and viable entity, many of these issues cannot wait until an annual conference and need to be addressed at Special Member meetings. We want our members informed and involved. These matters have a direct impact on your chapters and regions.

It's not all work, though! Region 8 has built in free time on Saturday so you can see the magnificent Falls, shop Prime Outlets Mall, or even visit one of the Niagara region's three casinos. Just remember, if you are planning to cross the short hop into Canada, you will need your passport or NYS enhanced driver's license.

New York State Women Inc. is empowering women personally, professionally and politically. Join a great group of great women to have a great weekend in Niagara Falls! Register today and enjoy these last great days of summer...
