Advocacy Update From Conference

Election Day, Tuesday, November 8, 2016

This year’s General Election provides us with the opportunity to make changes that will advance our legislative priorities, or impede them. In addition to the presidency, the American people also will have the opportunity to vote for every member of the House of Representatives. In New York State, every seat in the State Senate and State Assembly is up for election, along with United States Senator Schumer.

In making our choices at the ballot box, there are tools we can use to examine the voting records of those incumbents who are running for reelection. I have Project Vote Smart to be a useful resource in doing that research: http://votesmart.org/

One can find the ratings given to an incumbent by numerous organizations, and then click on the link to those organizations to determine the basis for their ratings.

On the websites for the New York State Assembly http://assembly.state.ny.us/ and New York State Senate https://www.nysenate.gov/ one can research the individual members, as well legislation.

These tools can be used to determine if a candidate for office has a record that demonstrates that he or she is supportive of the issues we support with our Legislative Platform, and Advocacy Statement.
