NYSW - Buffalo Niagara Chapter - Women’s Votes Make All the Difference

Author: Communications Committee/Thursday, September 29, 2022/Categories: Chapter Events

Event date: 10/5/2022 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM Export event

Our speaker, Lori Robinson from the League of Women Voters, will discuss the crucial difference female voters make in elections and why it’s important for voters to educate themselves on candidates.

A May 2021 article from Voice of America’s website, voanews.com affirms: No matter how they vote, women play a huge role in U.S. elections. “They’ve registered and voted at higher rates than men in every presidential election since 1980,” says Claire Gothreau, a research associate at the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers. “They outnumber men, at least in the past couple of elections, by about 10 million. So, even though men outpaced women in terms of some other forms of political engagement like donating and running for office, the fact that women outvote men is meaningful.”

And, according to the Pew Research Center, in 2016, 63% of women who were eligible to vote said they cast ballots in the presidential election, compared with 59% of men. These patterns are also similar for midterm elections.
