We are a non-profit state federation. Our membership includes women and men of every age, race, religion, political party and socio-economic background. We are a leading advocate on work-life balance and workplace equity issues.

Achieving Equality for Women: New York has long served as a model for equality and fairness on several issues including women’s rights. The Governor today announced plans to advance a 10-Point Women’s Equality Act.

At the October meeting of Southern Finger Lakes Women (SFLW), Kelly McCarthy was named the 2012 Woman of the Year. Kelly currently serves on the Watkins Glen School Board and is an SFLW member.

Katherine T. King our 1962 State BPW President died Christmas Eve in Florida.  She was a young widow and a member of Delhi when she was Dean of Women there.

There are many organizations across New York State that interest me. I often find it difficult to decide to what groups and activities I want to support. NYS Women, Inc. has always been an easy participation decision for me. I first became involved as a member of the Tech Valley Chapter.

To “empower” means to give authority to, or power to act; to make yourself or someone else stronger, or more confident. In essence, it is a force for moving forward.

New York State Women Inc. is in the process of collecting scholarship award information from our local chapters. We believe that this information will help promote New York State Women Inc. to both members and nonmembers. Once the information is compiled, it will be listed on the NYSW, Inc. website.

In 2004 the NY Grace LeGendre Endowment Fund began awarding Special Grants to organizations in order to sponsor educational or research opportunities which would further the advancement of working women.

At our December meeting, the Tech Valley chapter voted to change the way we handle dues. Like most chapters, we have been operating under the current system. The dues notice is generated by State.

We have had many members ask what they can do to help those devastated by Hurricane Sandy.  At this time, we have been asked to support the Red Cross and their efforts to assist storm victims.  As we learn more from our chapters that were affected and what they might specifically need, we will pass along the information.  Thank you all for your willingness to help! http://www.redcross.org/hurricane-sandy
