The Staten Island chapter of New York State Women will honor their longest standing members Margaret Barry and Geraldine Walters Smith with their Lifetime Distinction Award. Margaret served the organization for 53years; Geraldine for 52 years.
Seven outstanding women will join Ms. Barry and Ms. Walters-Smith at the ceremony and luncheon on Saturday, April 2, 2016, noon, LiGreci’s Staaten, 697 Forest Avenue, and Staten Island.

Local jazz singer Mari McNeil left a corporate position to enter the music field; we’ll explore her career travels. According to a 2014 The Buffalo News article, Mari’s “musical journey has included a transition from 12 years (and two albums) of folk to her current four-year-old journey into jazz standards and hidden gems.”

Capital Region Women’s Network (CRWN) partnered with Girls Inc. to offer the Reality Store program on September 29, 2015 at the Girls Inc. Schenectady location, with 14 youth participating. Girls Inc. runs a vibrant after school program for Schenectady area youth that draws from Schenectady and the surrounding communities.

What could be better than being pampered in NY in February? We will be supporting local businesses and getting pampered at the same time.

March is Women’s History Month and we will showcase the women from our region who were the “first.” Did you know Louise Bethune was the first American woman to have worked as a professional architect? (She designed Buffalo’s Hotel Lafayette.) Discover Anna Katharine Green, “the mother of the detective novel” and many other women local women who broke new territory. We’ll also feature St. Bonaventure University’s “March Madness” women’s handicapping contest.
