Assembly ready to consider stand-alone WEA bills

The state Assembly is poised to take up several of the individual components of the Women’s Equality Agenda as separate bills, ending a two-year impasse caused by a controversial reproductive rights plank.

For almost two years, Democrats in the Assembly have refused to break up the 10 components of the 2013 package proposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to address a range of civil rights issues, from fighting pay disparity and pregnancy discrimination in the workplace to enhancing protections for domestic violence victims and women ensnared in sex trafficking.
